an afternoon spent at home

“But the wild things cried, “Oh please don’t go – we’ll eat you up – we love you so!”
-Maurice Sendack

I would be really sad writing this post about saying goodbye to good friends, if at the same time I weren’t also so glad for knowing them.

Seven years ago I was very very late for an event (partially because a certain someone, ahem, this girl right here, had taken me with her to a birthday party and then couldn’t be dragged away from a certain young man she had met, also featured in the previous post), and so I got the only seat left, at a table with Leigh here.
It’s funny to look back on the chance events that bring certain people into your lives.  Like that that birthday party was in a neighborhood that was hosting a parade, and while that was going on, one friend was meeting her future husband, not realizing that when we left a little late there would be a major traffic jam, and we would actually be a lot late, and so I end up sitting with another future friend.  At the time she was a single girl living in her first home – this same house seen below.  And, as you can see, Leigh made some changes at a quick rate!  They’re now moving on and away, so I went over to take a few pictures of the kids outside of the house, and then stayed with them while they played in all their favorite places.  Just to remember some of those every day moments they had in this home.

I’ll miss this home, myself.  I’ve been there feeling my worst, and always left feeling 100 times better.  They’re so warm and welcoming, they can defeat any bad mood!  So I guess what I’m saying is, I’ll miss them all a lot.  Friends like this are rare, so, thanks, friends!  For your time here.  I’m looking forward to the next chapter, and visiting you in your new home.

Beautiful home. Beautiful family. Beautiful pictures. I love these four just as much as you do, Jennifer. I too have benefited from their friendship and care. I’ll miss visiting them in Atlanta.
